Cycling NZ for Polio Plus

Coming to your town or a town near you...

Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, Xaver Hausner, and his flatmate, Oliver Macindoe, are cycling the length of New Zealand to raise funds for Polio Plus.  They leave Cape Reinga on 24 November 2010 and expect to reach Bluff on 13 January.

All Rotary Clubs are encouraged to support this Inter-District project which has been wholeheartedly endorsed by all NZ District Governors.
The route chosen for this promo event
What Clubs can do

  • Commit to taking fundraising responsibility for a short segment of the 3357 km journey (13.4 kilometres) – every dollar you raise is matched by a dollar from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
  • Be creative in the way you fundraise for this project
  • If you’re on the route (East Coast North Island and West Coast South Island)
    • try to use the journey to get news media interest in Polio Plus
    • try to give the boys a bed for the night
    • try to organise a group of keep Rotary cyclists (and their children) to accompany the boys through your town – and to make a good photo opportunity
  • Get in touch with your District Club Support team to make sure your efforts are coordinated with other clubs in your District
This is a fantastic opportunity for Rotary Clubs to be active in their community for a short time for global Rotary project which resonates strongly with New Zealanders.

Compete with other clubs in your District to see who can raise the most per member.

Daily updates on the journey and the fund raising activity will be carried on a dedicated website from the beginning of November.

Please tell your District Governor and Club Support Team that you are part of this exciting and worthwhile whole of NZ project.
