Polio Fundraiser for our birthday
CONVICTION - the movie
Date 23 February 2011
Our friends for 20th Century Fox in New Zealand are releasing the film “Conviction” on February 24th so they have offered the film to us on the night of February 23rd for a special “Rotary Birthday” fundraising night.
PDG Tony writes:
"20th Century Fox in New Zealand has agreed to offer the showing of the film “Conviction” as a pre-release “Rotary Birthday” fund-raiser in cinemas from 14 Feb prior to its general release. This is a great opportunity to pick up extra cash for the Polio Challenge and save those hard earned dollars for your many other projects (including TRF Annual Giving).
DG Howard has asked all clusters and clubs to support this fundraiser, with coordination in centres with Hoyts, Reading, and Events cinemas provided by the local AGs. There is potential to raise in excess of $75,000 in 9940 provided it is supported by clubs and Rotarians.
The movie is exceptional, and has won awards overseas."
Place this in your Club calendar now so we can maximise the event to fund raise for The Rotary Foundation.

Stroke Foundation (Inter District Project - TBC)
Date 14 May 2011
Date 14 May 2011
Working with NZ Stroke Foundation and New World to encourage people to have their blood pressure taken when visiting the supermarket.
A further update (31 August 2010)
We have an opportunity for Rotary to support a nationwide Blood Pressure Campaign. It has great potential and is a good profile opportunity for Rotary to build our communities.
Building on the success of the campaign last year, participating Rotary clubs will need to provide people for one day, on 14th May 2011 at a local New World/Pak and Save supermarket, to support St Johns medical people record blood pressure tests which are being done free. Rotary clubs can display their banner, hand out flyers etc.
The project needs a ‘district champion’ to work in with project initiator, PDG Pat Waite, and PDG Graham Douglass ( New World ) and make this happen.

Past District Projects
We are making arrangements for replica jackets, jerseys etc to be on sale from Ultimo with each sale making a contribution to the fundraising for PolioPlus. What better present for a keen cyclist who wants to make a statement about the importance of eradicating polio around the planet.

Red Nose Day has come and gone!!!!
Great how so many of the clubs got behind this and made it a fun way to raise funds for Cure Kids - a huge thank you!
The Red Nose Day is coming back!!

Cycling NZ for Polio Plus (Inter District Project)
November 2010-February 2011
We plan to cycle the length of New Zealand from Cape Reinga in the north to Bluff in the very south. We will start our trip at the end of November after the exams are finished and want to be in Bluff by the middle of January.
We divided the length of the trip (3350 km) into 250 pieces, which we will try to sell to all of the Rotary Clubs in New Zealand. The minimum price is 13.4 NZD per piece, as we want to raise at least 1 NZD for each kilometre. The whole sum will be donated to Rotary International’s PolioPlus campaign to support the goal in raising 200 million USD by the end of 2012.

The Red Nose Day is coming back!!
(1-19 November)
Rotary began Cure Kids some 35 years ago, supporting research into life-threatening childhood illnesses affecting Kiwi kids. Can you believe it, the last Red Nose Day was some 13 years ago!!
This year Rotary Clubs throughout New Zealand have been provided the opportunity to be "community partner" in the up coming Red Nose Day appeal which supports Cure Kids.
This campaign starts on 1 November and culminates at 10am on 19 November with a Red Nose morning tea across New Zealand. Together with Paper Plus outlets Rotary Clubs are encouraged to support the event in their project calendar.
Actions your Club can take. I suggest:
- Nominate a person in your Club as the ‘Red Nose’ coordinator
- Identify ways your Club can associate with Paper Plus stores and Shell Service Stations in our District order to provide a BOLD profile in your community.
- Plan to support the ‘Red Nose’ morning tea on the Friday of 19 November
I'm sure you will agree, this is a fun activity for a very worthwhile cause.
With our combined efforts Rotary can again be seen as relevant and active in building communities. Let’s make it happen in your community.
