Donations to assist people affected by the Pike River disaster
President Murry Cave reports that the Rotary Club of Greymouth have made the following decisions at a Club Forum last week.
1. 1000 Christmas Puddings donated by New Zealand Rotary clubs through an initiative started by Milford and Ellerslie Sunrise Clubs will be distributed via Red Cross. The Rotary Club of Greymouth was putting a mechanism in place to ensure that the broader pool of impacted people such as mines rescue, those who trained the miners, the police teams, the volunteers, etc are targeted. This was because other teams such as Lions are already doing hampers for those directly affected.
2. Funds coming into The Trustpower Lend a Hand Foundation will be targeted at long term resolution of impacts and will focus on supporting the education of victims children in the broader sense.
3. Funds coming into the Rotary Club of Greymouth will be placed into a separate disaster fund and again held and considered strategically addressing long term impacts on victims.
4. Rotary will offer assistance to Solid Energy and the Council to finish the beautification of the Strongman Mine memorial site which has been the focus of attention re laying flowers etc.
Murry Cave will also put a new page re Pike river up on the website plus update the Facebook page.
The donations from New Zealand and around the world is hugely appreciated as we all stand together to provide support and care.
