Reported in the Pahiatua Bulletin this week:
This beautiful bunch of daffodils came from Bill Carthew and traditionally on the first Monday in September, Bill brings in the daffodils for the President. Last Monday was the first meeting but the weather meant that we were unable to meet. This continues a tradition started in 1958, after Bill had come back from a 3 month trip to the United States, organized by Rotary..
One of the places that the group of 8 visited, was a daffodil grower. Bill brought back some bulbs and Bill’s father (until he died) brought in a bunch of these daffodils for the president of Rotary. It is great to have a tradition that is uniquely our own. In that tour of the States, the group spoke up to 3 times per day, making 64 visits and speeches to various Rotary groups in 6 weeks.
