Great day yesterday

Wow what a day....

President Carl and festive PE Christine Oldham
7:00 - Hutt Valley Breakfast Club - buzzing, dynamic, busy with projects.  Jenny and I enjoyed another visit to this breakfast Club - where we were treated with a review from IPP Leanne of 2009/10 and also a review of the last 6 months under President Carl's leadership.  The AGM was efficiently completed and they were also able to have a young family present whose house had been painted by the Club (under Roy Cox's leadership and many helpers) in ONE day.  A local businessman then presented the family who has a very sick child, with a voucher giving them free car maintenance for a year.  Certainly a Club putting Service first!

AG Brian, IPDG David, DG Howard, PP Alan
11:20 - Picked up from work by IPDG David and Michele - we traveled back to the Hutt Valley to attend the annual Eastern Hutt luncheon for senior citizens.  Well, actually we did more than 'attend'.  David, myself, AG Brian Klee and Rotarian Alan Thorborne donned army, navy and airforce costumes and gave those who attended a taste of the 'Kiwi Concert Party' - entertaining them with a singalong of the old war songs.  I noted that many did not need to refer to the words as they sang and remembered those days gone by.  After a lovely lunch we then sang carols and then said our farewells as David kindly returned me to my work.

And the boys are on their way to Wellington
6:30 - Walking around the Wellington harbour on a balmy evening, Jenny and I met at our local Rotarian's apartment with others from my Club (Port Nicholson) where we enjoyed friendship, good wine and an old fashioned BBQ.  I can't recall the last time I had a sausage in a slice of bread.  And in the park below thousands gathered for a 'Carols in the Park' spectacular - which was a great community event.

11:00 - Returned home and it was too late to Blog - hence this posting today.  A great day of friendship, celebrating success and enjoying the moment. Another celebration of the 'Family of Rotary'.  Photos to come!!

Finally - we are all looking forward to Monday when we welcome our intrepid riders (Xaver and Ollie) who would have completed their North Island leg as they bike to raise money towards our international fight to eliminate Polio
