2-10 May promotion - Macular Degeneration awareness

The majority of us take our eyesight for granted until one day as we get older we do not see as clearly. For some people a simple visit to the optometrist and a pair of glasses does not solve the problem. The diagnosis is Macular Degeneration.
MD is an eye disease that causes progressive loss of central vision, leading to loss of independence and reduction in quality of life.  It is the leading cause of blindness in the over 50s in New Zealand.
Macular Degeneration NZ was set up with the aim of raising awareness, promoting early detection, facilitating access to treatment and support services and providing information and education to those who have or may be at risk of developing MD.
Macular Degeneration is central to a compelling New Zealand movie - ‘Hook, Line and Sinker’.
PJ (Rangimoana Taylor) the main character fails his mandatory eye test and loses his driving licence - he has macular degeneration.
MDNZ has been most fortunate to forge links with/have developed a relationship with the Wellington film maker Andrea Bosshard and sustainable film making collective Torchlight Films.
Andrea and co-writer and director Shane Loader used macular degeneration as a pretext for exploring attitudes to work and the role that work plays in building one’s sense of worth in both society as a whole and within the family.
‘Hook, Line & Sinker’ will have its world premiere in Wellington at the Embassy Theatre on 2nd May and  Monday and a private screening at the Auckland War Memorial theatre on Wednesday 4thMay. There will be regional events and special charity screenings throughout New Zealand.
Dr Dianne Sharp, Chair MDNZ, and the Trustees wish to seek your support to help raise awareness of MD within your membership by promoting this wonderful movie which can also be shown at other dates and times if there is sufficient interest.
If you would like to know more or would like to purchase tickets please contact me at info@mdnz.co.nz or call 0800 MACULA
I should add that MDNZ’s focus is to raise awareness of MD; thus this is not a fundraising event although we do hope to cover our costs with further sponsorships/financial help.
Kind regards
Paula Daye Project Manager MDNZ
