Passionate running for Christchurch

The damaged Christchurch Cathedral
From the Takaro Bulletin #35:
Auckland Cathedral
Lyal spoke of his recent adventure supporting one of his fellow workers in a fund raising run from Auckland to Christchurch. They called it Cathedral to Cathedral and had to complete 1053 km’s over a 15 day period. An average of 70 km’s per day and a target of $10 per km the goal. The people of NZ were awesome in their generosity and gave freely of donations, accommodation, meals, ferry crossing, van, petrol, running shoes and gear, sustenance drinks etc etc. Perry went through a pack of ice a day keeping his ankle swelling down and he drank copious bottles of chocolate milk and cans of coke for energy. Met by Dean Peter Beck of Christchurch and a meeting with Mayor Bob Parker it was a humbling experience for Perry, Lyal and Grant (our IT man who flew to Ch-Ch to run the last day with us) A busy and tiring two weeks with 3.30am starts but was all worth it to present to the people of Christchurch a cheque for just over $15,000. ($15 per km)
