I received the sad news last night from son Nigel that his father, PDG Stuart Hayton, had quietly passed away. Stuart was our District's Governor in 1956 and had celebrated his 100th birthday last November. Stuart in fact was the first DG of the newly formed District 9940 and it was our pleasure to have spent some time with him when we visited the New Plymouth Clubs earlier in our visit schedule. He spoke about his time in the armed forces in Italy and had a real sparkle in his eye as he related his many stories.
PDG Nigel says a notice will be placed in local papers in the next day or so. I am sure he will receive a fitting send off as we celebrate the exceptional service he gave to his community through Rotary.
