RI Director Stuart Heal - an extract from a recent report to Districts:
"I must say the role of director is demanding plenty of our time. Very rewarding, even exciting, as you start to see changes taking place. There is no doubt President Ray Klinginsmith is blowing the winds of change through our organisation.
The first of these changes I would like to mention is the creation of the position of Rotary Coordinator. There are now 41 of these around the world with PDG Rob Wylie, PDG Dave Villanueva and PDG Rob Crabtree filling the roles in our zones. I have seen these roles in action at a “Bigger, Better, Bolder” seminar in the Philippines in June and more recently at a similar seminar in Canberra. The roles are based on supporting our clubs to help them become more active and to help implement the RI strategic plan. The Canberra seminar attracted over 500 Rotarians on a weekend that had a national election as a distraction. It was a wonderful weekend and full credit must go to the organisers. I trust the ideas discussed are now being discussed, even implemented, at club level. Following on from Canberra there were two more gatherings where President Ray spoke, in Christchurch and Wellington. During the three events over 1000 Rotarians had the chance to hear our inspirational President speak. If this is the standard our Rotary Coordinators can achieve then it was a very inspired innovation to create this role.
Thank you all for the support you have given Adrienne and me to date. We have been really impressed with all of the good work going on in this region and with the desire to do more and do it even better. President Ray’s winds of change are blowing down under for sure."
