The Rotary Club of Takaro - in full swing!

A wonderful project - well done

Love the sign and the partnership
with a well known NZ business
What another great day visiting yet another Manawatu Club.  Takaro Club was chartered in 1972 - has a proud history and from what I felt when visiting the Club - it will have a very busy future.  Upon arrival Jenny and I were taken to the STAR Ward of Palmerston North Hospital where we met staff and saw the garden area the Club has developed in the last 18 months - a

wonderful facility which I am sure will be valued by the patients and staff.  We viewed one of their Centenary projects - an aquarium in the reception area which again is much appreciated.
Off to the "Club Rooms"
Before meeting the Board we were then taken (via the coffee shop) to a park where the Club had erected a shelter and next to it a 'rotary' table which contains their 'time capsule'.  The pagoda we saw by the riverside was in one flood almost completely submerged.  And then onto the 'Club rooms' - some call it the 19th hole.  They shifted their venue from the verdict cafe to newly built Manawatu Golf Club - wow!  From the stately

Wharerata last night to the venue with a view of the beautiful golf course - why would anyone NOT want to be part of this Club?  A brief meeting with the Board before I was able to meet "Pa Jon" and Mike who told me all about their long history listening the the young pupils reading at Takao School.  This is a decile 1 school which has seen a significant improvement in the level of reading, and much credit is given to the weekly visits by Rotarians.  The meeting was marked with laughter, chatter and lovely food.  My message focused on the value of communication both within the Club as well as with the community.  Members responded well and it was good to

have PDG Lindsay and Jill at our table.  We travelled home thinking that we will certainly hear more about the projects this Club and others in AG Scott's Cluster will develop before years' end.
And then, having arrived home, Jenny and I sat glued to the box - with the Silver Ferns EVENTUALLY winning GOLD in the Net ball at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.  A full and fulfilling day.
