White Ribbon Day 25 November

White Ribbon Day is the largest effort by men across the world, working in partnership with women, to end men’s violence against women.
In 1991, a group of Canadian men began a campaign to urge men to speak out against violence against women. The group adopted the wearing of a white ribbon as a symbol of men’s opposition to men’s violence against women. That first effort achieved the distribution of 100,000 white ribbons to men across Canada, and promoted widespread community discussion about violence in personal relationships.  With our fair city holding a not so proud record of being 2nd in line to Auckland south in regard to domestic violence it would be wonderful to show support to the community if all of the men involved in Rotary were to join the White Ribbon day parade’s being held around the Hutt City.

In Petone ‘Increase the Peace’ parade will start at 11.30am with Karakia followed by Lunch and then a march around Scholefield Street Park (which Petone Rotary helped build 4years ago) and will finish with an acknowledgement to all victims of family violence by the releasing of white balloons.
