New Horizons for Wgtn South

A stunning evening
A few posts ago I spoke of how a good 'pav' was similar to a good Club.  Some pavs are irresistible, some are chewy and not that appealing!!  (Read here ...)
A good Club, I concluded, was one with a good People, with a variety of Activities and a Venue that attracted members.

Well last night the venue for the Wellington South Christmas function was superb.  The Pines is situated on the southern coast of Wellington and overlooks to rugged coastline.

The night was balmy, the company was excellent, the food superb and the entertainment first class!!

PEOPLE:  President Francis led a very full programme with the inclusion of the very fine soprano voice of Charlotte Kirby.  I was pleased to have my two brothers and their wives in attendance along with Jenny.  We had the pleasure of inducting a new member to the Club, newly-elected Councillor Paul Eagle and to also have the opportunity to present a Paul Harris Fellow to Wellington's new mayor, Celia Wade-Brown.  Mayor Celia is well known for her support of the Great Harbour Way (another Rotary Project) and it was a pleasure to offer this award to one very surprised recipient!

ACTIVITIES:  Wellington South has members off to India next month on the National Immunisation Day (led by PDG Pat Waite), they are active in their campaign for Toys for Tonga (which the received  new 'District Grant' funding) and they have a Big Dig Planned to raise funds for the local Plunket.  Present also was Elaine Pratley and husband Andrew.  Elaine is our new Rotary Foundation Peace Scholar sponsored by Wellington South and soon to travel to Bangkok to commence her studies.  This is the Club where PRIP Bill Boyd started his Rotary journey - a Club which is the second oldest in Wellington and a Club with big heart.  Under President Francis' leadership and with the support of all the members, they are chartering new horizons as they look towards 2011.

VENUE:  President Francis announced that they are finalising a shift in venue to the Mt Victoria Bowling Club in the new year.

Oh yes - and the pav was delicious!  Thankyou Wellington South.
