District Conference: one Club's perception

The theme was 'Actions Count' but if you ask the members from Pencarrow that attended — you'll probably find that they mainly remember:

1. The $610 glass of water auction
The powhiri got the Conference off on the right footing!
2. Sir Ray Avery's entertaining delivery on how he managed to end up in NZ, 'Observation being the Key to Innovation', 16 million spectacles with Fred Hollows Trust, Silver lined anti-bacterial woollen jerseys and this observation that helped save thousands of prem-babies, and his humorous examples including "What finger
did I use for the pee test?", his Tiger Woods’ years of due diligence and 'Sperm with outboard motors attached or just lazing around on lilos’.
4. Michael McQueen's enlightening talk explaining 'Builders, Baby Boomers, X, Y and Z Generations and what makes them tick.
3. Don't say 'Should' and respect is a two way thing.
5. National Immunisation Day in India - an emotional bombshell.
6. Gangsters and Molls mixed with keystone cops and cross-dressing convicts.
7. The welcoming powhiri - including 4 to 84 year olds.
8. Climbing out of 'The Pit'
9. Neville Jordan's accidental but career breaking opportunity at NASA whilst in Florida with his GSE team and his comment about feeling like Liz Taylor's 8th husband - "I know what I've done - but how will I be rated!?"
10. Pencarrow's gorgeous molls. A big hit.
11. Edna's Mexican wave from all the delegates
12. RCAA - newest 'Rotary Committee Against Acronyms'
13. Social Media is here.
14. Change is inevitable.
15. Jack Nicolas - A Polio survivor
16. The Presie's pump action walking stick....

I do urge you all to think seriously about attending next year’s District Conference to be held in April at Wanganui Collegiate.
The speakers alone are more than worth the cost for the 3 days.  Following Pres' elect Wolfie's address to us on Monday night outlining the new direction Rotary is taking, showing us the new refined vision and asking us our thoughts on a number of issues - I know he will be urging us to support DG elect Bob Smith's theme; relating to the younger genera tions—'The future of Rotary is in Their Hands'.
