I received this very brief message from one of our 9940 Clubs today:
Our Club has donated $17,800 ($7,800 from private donations from members and $10,000 from the Club) to the Christchurch earthquake appeal.
Just another way we can support and build the Christchurch community.
I sent the following to Presidents and AGs in my District this morning:
I am heartened to see such a willingness by Clubs and Clusters in 9940 to support Christchurch.
- Funds for Christchurch can be channelled into the Relief fund set up by RNZWCS – this is overseen by DG Margaret and has received significant support from both here and overseas. Rotary New Zealand Christchurch/Canterbury Earthquake Appeal
- Home hosting in our District is being coordinated by Kevin Stratton – and the first report has been sent through to Christchurch – see attached.
- Shelter Box – a repositioning of SB’s has occurred with many now located in Auckland. Temporary housing is being considered in Christchurch but at present (as I have just heard on the news) tents are not favoured as they look for other alternatives.
- Funding for larger initiatives through Rotary Foundation. Direct your enquiries in the first instance to PDG Tony (DRFC) – there is an option to combine with Clubs in other Future Vision Districts and by using the “Community Development” area of focus (or any of the other 5), you can work on a sustainable project but note that the total amount of the project must be in excess of USD $30k.
