Your Magazine, Your Resource

From Rotary Down Under – March 2011 :
April is rotary international’s magazine month, during which Rotarians and Rotary clubs are asked to make a special effort to recognise and promote rotary regional magazines – especially Rotary Down Under.

The Official Magazine of Rotary International, The Rotarian, has been published continuously since 1911. Thus the Rotary World Magazine Press, of which your official regional magazine Rotary Down Under is a part, is celebrating 100 years of service to Rotary this year.
Rotary Down Under is 46 years old this month – a grand achievement! An informed Rotarian is a better Rotarian.
Rotary World Magazine Press publications are a crucial communications link between Rotary International and Rotarians in your District. The network consists of 31 regional magazines published in 26 languages.

Rotary Down Under is the ONLY direct link between you as a Rotarian and the RI Board of Directors! Rotary Down Under is the best resource and educational tool available to you and your Rotary club.
Keeping in touch. Once every two years, Rotary clubs and Rotarians throughout the South West Pacific Region have the opportunity to influence the editorial policy of Rotary Down Under by way of a Magazine Month survey.
Clubs and individuals have the opportunity to indicate magazine likes and dislikes and, if general consensus is strong enough, management effects the required changes.
The most recent professional survey was a reader survey conducted by McNair Ingenuity in October 2007, but clubs and members may communicate with RDU at any time. We conducted a total club survey in April, 2006, which produced very favourable reader responses and another is planned for 2011.
Subscription compulsory. Subscription to an official Rotary regional magazine is mandatory. It is a condition of membership, agreed by all Rotarians when they accept membership. Rotary Down Under is completely selffunded.
We rely on your subscriptions and receive no major funding from Rotary International.
Rotary Down Under also has invaluable promotional use when provided as a reading resource to a library or utilised as a gift for exchange students, civic leaders or even guest speakers / visitors to a Rotary club.
On-line subscription. The Council also ruled that subscribers to The Rotarian living in North America could now take an on-line subscription to that magazine. We at Rotary Down Under fully expect the next Council on Legislation to extend that privilege to subscribers to all regional magazines throughout the world that have the capacity to subscribe to an on-line edition. Rotary Down Under has been available online for more than three years, but at this stage it is still mandatory for our subscribers to subscribe to a hard copy version in the mail.
Other on-line resources. Apart from the e-edition of Rotary Down Under, Rotarians can use the Rotary Down Under website to organise District Conferences and other events, book and pay for tickets to those events, promote their business through our Rotarians Doing Business directory.
