The other week I reported on PM John Key visiting the Rotary Club of Tawa.
This week the Bulletin reports on the latest visitor.
Graham Henry with President Tony and partner Shona |
Last Weeks Meeting Notes : Too many guests to name, including a contingent from Tawa College and Tawa Rugby Club, were included in the over 110 who attended the evening to mark to visit to the Club of Graham Henry. $348.50 was collected from the raffle that will be donated to the Tawa Food Bank. The Raffle winners were Malcolm Sparrow and Pat Waite. A Rugby World Cup rugby ball signed by Graham was auctioned and went for $151. Sergeant : $120.90.
Speaker last week was Graham Henry, Head Coach of the All Blacks.
This was a more informal evening with many members wearing their favourite team colours. Graham started by explaining that the All Black players stay there because they want to add to the legacy of the game. The current players have the most combined experience than any team in the history of the game. But they haven’t won a WRC for 24 years and everyone is determined that we win again. A great deal has gone into analysing the past 24 years and what went wrong. 85% of any game is getting the basics right, the remaining 15% is about strategies to stay ahead.
The All Blacks have won 19 of their past 20 matches and therefore must be favourite’s but that is not necessarily an advantage. Other teams are likely to play better with more emotion, more physicality and determination as they are not under the pressure of being the favourite. If the All Black’s are to win the RWC then they need to expect the unexpected and need the mental toughness to deal with what ever comes their way and carry on, because that’s what they will get during the tournament – the unexpected. With 90 days to go before the tournament starts we wish Graham and the All Black’s well.
